We have asked that God return to Jerusalem and establish within it the throne of David, so that the holy city could become the headquarters for a worldwide spiritual renaissance. Now we ask for the Mashiach (“Messiah”) to come. This blessing reads: May You cause the offspring of David, your servant, to flourish quickly. And may his power be enhanced through Your salvation. Because for Your salvation, we hope all day. Blessed are You, YHVH, who causes salvation to flourish. With this request for the offspring of David—that is, for the dawning of the Messianic Era—we shift our attention away from national teshuvah and now focus on universal teshuvah. Let’s take a look at who the Mashiach really is, and what his arrival will mean to the world.
