In the second blessing we affirm that God not only cares about us but is also able to help us. However, we also acknowledge that God’s help may come over time, because He is committed to the gradual process of the life cycle. Knowing this truth enables us to pray with trust and patience. You are forever powerful, O God … even when things look chaotic and out of control You are still in control. You revive the dead … even when things look hopeless You can work miracles. You are abundant in salvation … even if I am not worthy to receive what I’m about to ask for, You can overcome Your own attribute of justice. You bring the dew. [You make the wind blow and the rain fall.] Your might is also evident in Your ability to overcome Your inclination to shower us with blessings. You bring blessings to us with restraint, in the right measure and time, just as You bring the dew and rain in its right measure and time. Although we pray with confidence we also pray with patience, because we know that You support life with kindness, and we recognize that life is a process. Everyday You revive the dead with compassion, waking us each morning from our sleep which is a type of death. You lift up the fallen, energizing us to get up from our beds. You heal the sick, enabling us to relieve ourselves daily. And You free the bound, empowering us to move about freely. And just as we know this to be true and experience this daily we know that You fulfill Your promise to those who sleep in the dust, those who are literally dead. Who is like you, Master of powerful deeds! Who compares to You, King who causes death and brings about life, both at the same time, and causes salvation to grow. We will never despair, because we know that salvation is a growth process, and what seems to be death to us is actually the beginning of a new life. And we know that You are committed to reviving the dead. Blessed are You … O how bountiful and abundantly present You are in our lives. O what an ever-flowing wellspring of blessings You are to us, YHVH, Timeless Ultimate Reality, who revives the dead. The more we believe and acknowledge this Divine truth, the more we will experience it in our everyday life.
