We prayed for the return to the Land of Israel, for a government true to Torah and for the removal of anyone who threatens our national stability. Now we ask for the people of inspiration to be among us. The thirteenth blessing (and tenth request) reads: For the holy ones, for the devout, for the elders of Your nation, for the House of Israel, and for the remnants of their scholars, and the true converts and ourselves may Your compassion be aroused, YHVH Eloheinu, and may You give good reward to all those who trust in Your name truly. And put our share among them forever, and we will not be embarrassed because we put our trust in You. Blessed are You, YHVH, who is a support and an assurance to the just. Appointing judges and advisors to restore the nation’s physical prosperity is the final step in our nation’s physical teshuvah. Now, in this blessing, we turn our attention to our nation’s spiritual teshuvah and redemption. We ask God that He empower those leaders who can generate our nation’s spiritual growth — the holy ones (tzaddikim) and the devout (chassidim).
